In the Mykolaiv region, a man stabbed his stepfather in the chest during an argument

In the evening of 12 August in one of the villages of the Pervomaisk community a man during a verbal conflict stabbed his stepfather in the chest. The victim was hospitalized in serious condition; he is currently recovering after surgery.

A report about the hospitalization of a 55-year-old local resident with a stab wound to the chest was received by police from medics around midnight. Police rapid response units, operatives, an investigative-operational team and a forensic expert from the Pervomaisk District Police Department arrived at the scene.

During initial investigative and operational-search measures, with the support of analysts from the Criminal Analysis Department of the regional police headquarters, law enforcement established the involvement in the crime of the victim’s 37-year-old stepson.

According to the investigation, the suspect came home late in the evening intoxicated. A verbal argument arose between him and family members, during which the man inflicted a stab wound to his stepfather’s chest. Medics took the victim to the hospital, where his condition is assessed as serious.

At the scene, police seized a knife and other physical evidence. They were sent for expert examination.

Investigators detained the man under the procedure of Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. Under the procedural supervision of the prosecutor’s office, he was notified of suspicion of causing intentional grievous bodily harm — under Part 1 of Article 121 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The article’s sanction provides for up to 8 years of imprisonment. The detainee had previously been held accountable for similar crimes and domestic violence.

A court is expected to choose a preventive measure for the suspect soon. The pre-trial investigation continues.
