9 births and 4 more pregnancies: the outcome of a free infertility treatment program in Mykolaiv
Overall, in Ukraine, as of the beginning of August 2026, 6,290 women have received treatment
In Mykolaiv, 148 women since the start of the state program have used free infertility treatment using assisted reproductive technologies (ART). During this time the city has already had 9 births, and another 4 pregnant women are currently registered.
These figures on 13 August 2026 were published by the Health Department of the Mykolaiv City Council.
According to the city department, at the beginning of August 2026 the service had been used by 35 women.
The state program for treating infertility with ART has been operating in Ukraine since 2024. Services are provided free of charge by state, municipal and private medical institutions that have signed an agreement with the National Health Service of Ukraine.
According to the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, as of the beginning of August 2026 6,290 women have already received treatment under this program nationwide. In 1,885 women pregnancy was confirmed after the use of assisted reproductive technologies. For comparison, in the entire previous year there were almost 7,000 such patients.
In 2026 the total amount of contracts with the National Health Service of Ukraine (NHSU) for the infertility treatment package using ART amounts to over UAH 699.8 million.
What is available for free
Under the Medical Guarantees Program, patients are covered for a set of procedures necessary for infertility treatment. These include:
- consultations and necessary specialist examinations;
- medication-based ovulation stimulation;
- egg retrieval and sperm preparation;
- anesthesia during egg retrieval;
- in vitro fertilization, including the ICSI method;
- embryo culture and transfer to the uterine cavity;
- ultrasound examinations and necessary medical monitoring;
- preimplantation genetic diagnosis when medically indicated;
- necessary medications;
- monitoring of the woman’s condition until pregnancy is confirmed or not confirmed.
The program covers one full ART cycle per year if it results in pregnancy. If pregnancy does not occur, during the same calendar year the state may fund an additional full or partial cycle.
Currently the corresponding NHSU package in Ukraine is available at 54 medical facilities: 46 private, 6 municipal and 2 state. You can find a facility through the NHSU dashboard by selecting package №63, or contact the National Health Service contact center at 16-77.
For Mykolaiv this program already has concrete results. As early as February 2025, the first baby in the city after IVF performed at the expense of the state program was born in the obstetrics department of City Hospital No. 5, located in the Korabelnyi district. It was reported that the woman had been waiting for the chance to become a mother for 12 years.
As of April 2025 the state program in Mykolaiv had been used by 81 families, and now the number of women who have received free treatment has risen to 148.
