13 August left very different events in the history of the Korabelnyi District and Mykolaiv: from a decision on new trolleybus routes and a big football victory by port workers to serious road accidents and Russian strikes on the city.
13 August 2025: two new trolleybus routes approved for Korabelnyi
The executive committee of the Mykolaiv City Council approved expanding the electric transport network in the Korabelnyi district: route No. 11 “Aivazovskyi Street (ring)” with a length of 12.7 km and route No. 12 “Aivazovskyi Street – Kulbakine” with a length of 22.6 km. The latter connected the district center with the Kulbakine neighborhood. The new directions became possible thanks to trolleybuses with autonomous operation.
13 August 2022: “Uragan” and “Smerch” struck Mykolaiv
In the evening Russian forces fired at the port infrastructure of Mykolaiv 3 rockets from the MLRS “Uragan”, and about an hour later struck with 6 rockets from the MLRS “Smerch” at residential neighborhoods and industrial facilities of the city. Several buildings were damaged and 1 person was wounded.
13 August 2021: port side “Olvia” demolished the opponent 7:2
On the field of the “Zorya” sports complex the team “Olvia”, representing the stevedoring company “Olvia” located in the Korabelnyi district, defeated “Viktoriia” with a score of 7:2 in the Mykolaiv city football championship. By halftime the port team was already leading 5:1.
13 August 2018: 6 people injured in an accident on the Shyrokobalnyi stretch
Around 14:25 on Bohoyavlenskyi Avenue a Chevrolet Aveo and a Daewoo Matiz collided. The Matiz overturned onto its roof from the impact. As reported by Korabelov.info citing the police, the female driver and 5 passengers of the Matiz were injured, among them 3 children aged 7 and 10 years. All the injured were taken to hospitals.
13 August 1941: German occupation reached Novyi Buh and Bereznehuvate
The Encyclopedia of Modern Ukraine notes that from 13 August 1941 Novyi Buh was under German occupation. On the same day Bereznehuvate was also occupied. Both settlements in present-day Mykolaiv Oblast were liberated in 1944.

13 August 1905 in the Welsh town of Barry journalist Gareth Jones was born; in 1933 he visited Ukraine and was one of the first to tell the world the truth about the Holodomor. And on the night of 13 August 1961 the GDR authorities began to block the border between East and West Berlin with barbed wire — thus began the history of the Berlin Wall.
