"Mykolaiv Parks" were offended and filed a lawsuit against an activist who saved trees from being cut down
Affects all of Facebook: a Mykolaiv activist responded ironically to a municipal enterprise's lawsuit
The municipal enterprise “Mykolaiv Parks” has filed a lawsuit against Mykolaiv activist Dmytro Riabchenko over his posts on Facebook. The enterprise believes that the information he published is false and harms the municipal enterprise’s business reputation. Dmytro Riabchenko said this on 11 August 2026 in a video on his page on Facebook, showing part of the lawsuit.
“A kind of funny spectacle happened here. ME “Parks”, my favorite enterprise, has filed a lawsuit against me. Look, see, they’ve stitched together a whole case,” — the activist said.
According to Riabchenko, the lawsuit states that he “for unknown motives, in which personal animosity can be traced,” is trying to discredit the enterprise’s work and spreading false information on the Internet.
“For a long time Dmytro Riabchenko, hereinafter the defendant, for unknown motives in which personal animosity can be traced, has been trying to discredit the work of the municipal enterprise of the Mykolaiv City Council “Mykolaiv Parks” and undermine the municipal enterprise’s business reputation,” — he read an excerpt from the document.
The lawsuit became a new stage of a years-long public conflict. Riabchenko repeatedly criticized the enterprise over tree removal and pruning, the condition of green areas, care of plantings, and the use of budget funds.
In August 2024 the activist tried to obtain information about the enterprise’s expenditures, the number of trees planted, and the salaries and bonuses of management. The enterprise refused to provide an answer, citing the way the request was filed.
At the beginning of 2025 a sharp conflict arose between the parties over the pruning of plane trees on Soborna Street. Riabchenko called the work the destruction of healthy trees, while municipal workers said it was necessary crown pruning to remove dead and hazardous branches. The police were called to the scene, and both sides filed statements.
Later the activist published a response from the housing and communal services department, according to which the enterprise did not plant a single tree from March to May 2025. In 2026 another dispute arose over the poplars on Flotsky Boulevard: the enterprise called the trees hazardous, while representatives of the environmental inspectorate demanded that a professional inspection be carried out first.
Riabchenko himself says that he helped save the plane trees on Soborna and other trees in the city. He also claims that, based on his appeals, environmental inspectors issued about 15 protocols against the enterprise.
“It turns out that what we fought them over for so many years, that I saved thousands of trees from them, like the plane trees on Soborna Street — that was discrediting,” — the activist said ironically.
Separately Riabchenko drew attention to the plaintiff’s claim about his influence on Facebook users.
“I liked that phrase that I have influence over all Facebook users. Dmytre Chuchmayu, well, you flatter me. If I had such influence, can you imagine what monetization that would be?” — he said.
According to the activist, screenshots of his posts were attached to the lawsuit. Among the demands is a retraction of the disseminated information. Riabchenko suggested that he might be required to publicly apologize to the enterprise, and he promised to keep Mykolaiv residents informed about the course of the case.
A separate detailed public statement from the municipal enterprise “Mykolaiv Parks” on this lawsuit had not been published at the time of preparing the material. The enterprise’s position is currently known from excerpts of the lawsuit that Riabchenko. showed and read.
