On this day in Ukraine and the world

August 6, 1657, or July 27 old style, in Chyhyryn died Bohdan Khmelnytsky — the first hetman of the Ukrainian Cossack state he had created. August 6, 1945 an American aircraft dropped an atomic bomb on the Japanese city of Hiroshima: tens of thousands of people died immediately, and the effects of radiation claimed lives for many years afterwards.

For the Korabelnyi District this date became a reminder of both the power of natural forces, the danger of neglected infrastructure, and of Russian terror, which in 2022 brought Mykolaiv new victims and destruction.
