In Mykolaiv, a man cultivated hemp and stored more than 10 kg of cannabis

In Mykolaiv, a 51-year-old local resident was found to have more than 10 kilograms of dried drug raw materials and 14 plants of the cannabis genus during a sanctioned search. The man was detained in accordance with procedural rules.

As reported by the Mykolaiv Oblast Police, the suspect was exposed by officers of Police Station No. 2 of the Mykolaiv District Police Department.

Law enforcement officers carried out the sanctioned search at the man’s place of residence as part of acting on operational information. During investigative actions they seized dried drug raw materials and cannabis plants.

According to the pre-trial investigation, the man cultivated narcotic plants on his household plot. The investigation established that he fertilized the soil, cleared the plot of weeds and regularly watered the plants.

According to the investigation, the suspect dried part of the harvested plants in the house attic. He ground the other part and packed it into glass jars for storage and, according to the investigation, for further sale.

Investigators detained the man in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine and notified him of suspicion under Part 3 of Article 307 and Part 1 of Article 310 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The charges relate to the illegal production, manufacture, acquisition, storage for the purpose of sale and sale of narcotic drugs in especially large quantities, as well as the sowing or cultivation of opium poppy or cannabis.

The court imposed a preventive measure on the suspect in the form of detention with the right to post bail. If found guilty, the man may face up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.

All seized drug raw materials were sent for expert examination. Law enforcement officers are establishing possible channels for the sale of narcotic drugs; the pre-trial investigation continues.
