Nearly half a year of searches with no results: in Mykolaiv they still haven't found the mother of the baby found in a dumpster
The child was hospitalized, and a reward is being offered for information
In Mykolaiv the police continue to search for persons who, according to the investigation, left an infant in a garbage container. For information useful to the investigation law enforcement officers guarantee a cash reward, confidentiality and anonymity.
A report about a child in a garbage bin was received by the police on the afternoon of 26 January from a resident of Mykolaiv. A passerby heard crying near a container next to the entrance of an apartment building on Lazurna Street, in the Namyv neighborhood.
The infant was hospitalized by ambulance. Doctors determined that the newborn was up to seven days old.
Police from the investigative-operational group of the Mykolaiv District Police Department, forensic experts from the investigative department, operatives and cynologists of the regional police headquarters arrived at the scene. Inspectors of the forensic laboratory collected, and investigators seized, physical evidence.
A pre-trial investigation has been opened on the fact of an attempt to murder a minor child under the signs of a criminal offense provided for in Part 2 of Art. 15, item 2 of Part 2 of Art. 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
Investigators have already obtained the results of about fifty examinations and are checking several versions. Operatives interviewed more than 2,500 citizens, are checking medical institutions of communal, state and private ownership, the city’s pharmacies, and are also questioning public transport and taxi drivers.
Analysts of the criminal analysis department monitored dozens of hours of video footage from the «Safe City» camera system. Juvenile prevention inspectors checked families in difficult living circumstances and educational institutions, cyber police are investigating the internet space, and psychological support staff composed a tentative profile of the offender. They are also checking government institutions where various population categories are registered and receive social assistance.
Citizens who saw a pregnant woman who suddenly left her place of residence, noticed suspicious behavior by people, or who have other important information are asked to report to the special line 102. The mother of the abandoned child was also urged to call 102 herself or come to the nearest police station: sincere repentance may be taken into account to mitigate punishment in accordance with Art. 66 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, and the woman is promised qualified legal and psychological assistance.
