Mykolaiv Zoo received two Seychelles giant tortoises — a celebratory gift for its 125th anniversary
They were handed over by herpetologist Dmytro Tkachov; 12–13-year-old Felix and Amalka, each 42 kg, are already in the new enclosure

On July 18, two unique animals were delivered to Mykolaiv Zoo — two Seychelles giant tortoises (Aldabrachelys gigantea).

This is a gift for the zoo’s 125th anniversary from the well-known Ukrainian herpetologist Dmytro Tkachov, founder and owner of the Bion Terrarium Center in Kyiv.
The tortoises are young, aged 12–13 years. The male named Felix and the female Amalka each weigh 42 kg. They were raised at a specialized breeding facility in the Czech Republic.
The homeland of these rare animals is Aldabra Island in the Seychelles. In captivity, some individuals have lived up to 150 years.
The new residents are already on display in a specially built enclosure.
