Entered the water and disappeared: another young man has died in Mykolaiv
Law enforcement is investigating the circumstances of the tragedy
In Mykolaiv, State Emergency Service divers found the body of an 18-year-old young man who disappeared while swimming in the waters of the Buh estuary near the 5th pier in the Namyv neighborhood.
The Main Department of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Mykolaiv Oblast and the regional police reported the tragedy on June 30, 2026.
Late in the evening of June 29, a report was received on the emergency line 102 that the young man had entered the water in the Namyv neighborhood and disappeared. The rescue service received information about the incident at 21:37.
Divers from the regional department of the State Emergency Service arrived on the boat Tuna UMS 655, along with the investigative-operational team of the Mykolaiv District Police Department and other emergency services.
Searches continued until nightfall, but that evening the young man could not be found.
Search operations resumed on the morning of June 30. They involved the diving group of the 10th platoon of the State Militarized Mine Rescue Unit of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.
During the inspection of the waters, divers found the body of the deceased and brought it to the surface.
Investigators opened a criminal case under Part 1 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine marked “Accident”. This classification is applied according to procedure during the investigation of similar deaths.
The young man’s body was sent for a forensic medical examination. Law enforcement is establishing all the circumstances of the tragedy.
The police urge citizens not to overestimate their physical abilities, not to attempt to swim across bodies of water, not to swim far from the shore, and to swim only in specially equipped and permitted places.
Law enforcement pays special attention to the safety of children and adolescents. Parents are urged to supervise their leisure activities and not to leave minors unattended near water.
A ban on mass recreation at bodies of water continues to be in effect in Mykolaiv during the summer period of 2026.
