Outbreak of intestinal infection at a Mykolaiv kindergarten: four children fell ill

In one of the preschool institutions of Mykolaiv, an outbreak of an acute intestinal infection has been recorded: preliminarily 4 children have fallen ill, which was reported by the Mykolaiv Regional Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.

The issue was promptly reviewed at a meeting of the Operational Center for Emergency Response in the Field of Public Health under the chairmanship of the institution’s general director Dmytro Makarov, where a decision was made to begin an epidemiological investigation and to involve rapid response teams.

Specialists from the Center are already working on site, identifying probable factors for the emergence of the infection with an emphasis on the organization of meal services for the children and compliance with sanitary and hygienic rules at the preschool.

At the same time, they are collecting epidemiological histories, interviewing parents and the facility’s staff, and performing the necessary laboratory tests to confirm the pathogen and routes of transmission.

Final conclusions regarding the cause of the outbreak, the source of infection and the factors of spread will be published after completion of the full set of epidemiological measures.

Relevant services have joined in further coordination, and the situation, according to the agency, remains under constant control.

Medical professionals appealed to parents with a warning to promptly consult a doctor if a child shows symptoms of an infectious disease and to refrain from self-medication.
