An iron pressed to the back and threats to cut off an ear: attacker of an elderly farming couple sentenced to 12 years
The court imposed a sentence of imprisonment with confiscation of property
The court found a 41-year-old resident of Odesa Oblast guilty, who together with an accomplice carried out a brutal robbery attack on an elderly farmer couple in Kryve Ozero in the Mykolaiv region.
This was reported on June 11, 2026 by the Pervomaiskyi District Police Department.
The incident occurred in early December 2023. The crime was reported to law enforcement by the victim.
As established by the police, the attacker ambushed the 76-year-old homeowner on the street when he went out for firewood. The perpetrator tied the man up and wrapped his head with clothing.
After that he entered the house, where he also tied the victim’s wife.
Threatening with a weapon and using physical violence, the attacker forced the homeowner to reveal where the money was kept.
According to the investigation, he tortured the pensioner by applying a switched-on iron to his back, and also threatened to cut off his ear.
Having learned the hiding place, the perpetrator took 4,000 US dollars, 20,000 hryvnias, mobile phones, a laptop, bank cards, a dashcam, a tuner and documents.
The total amount of damage exceeded 167,000 hryvnias.
After that the attacker left the couple bound and fled.
The victims managed to free themselves and call for help.
As a result of a set of investigative and operational-search measures, law enforcement established that a 41-year-old resident of Odesa Oblast was involved in the crime.
He was detained and notified of suspicion of committing a robbery with breaking into a dwelling aimed at seizing property on a large scale, combined with the threat of using dangerous violence, committed by prior conspiracy of a group of persons during martial law (Part 4 of Article 187 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
After the pre-trial investigation was completed, the indictment was sent to court.
The court has now found the accused guilty and sentenced him to 12 years’ imprisonment with confiscation of property.
Materials concerning his accomplice have been separated into a separate criminal proceeding.
At the same time, the verdict is not yet final and may be appealed in accordance with the law.
