Mykolaiv school students traveled to Denmark to learn about democracy and youth leadership

A delegation from Mykolaiv visited the Danish partner city Aalborg as part of the joint project “School Democracy”, which educators from both cities are developing.

This was reported by the Mykolaiv City Council.

The purpose of the trip was to strengthen international cooperation, exchange experience in democratic education, develop student self-government and youth leadership. It also aimed to establish partnerships between the youth of Ukraine and Denmark.

The Mykolaiv delegation included students, teachers and project coordinators.

During the visit they familiarized themselves with Aalborg’s educational practices, the work of student self-government and mechanisms for involving young people in decision-making at the local level.

The program was intensive: participants held meetings with representatives of the Aalborg municipality, attended educational seminars, leadership development trainings, and took part in joint youth events.

Special attention was paid to topics of democratic culture, civic responsibility, volunteering and the role of youth in community development and international partnership.

An important part of the visit was preparation for the celebration of the Danish Constitution Day. Ukrainian and Danish youth together took part in creative and educational activities, discussing European values, human rights, democracy and youth participation in public life.

The city council noted that the trip became a platform for cultural dialogue and exchange of experience. Participants gained new knowledge, practical skills and motivation to implement their own initiatives in their communities.

For Mykolaiv, which continues to restore education and seek international support during the war, such projects can be not only symbolic visits but also a chance to adopt practices that really work in European communities.
