Threatened to cause a car crash and carried it out: man rammed a vehicle with children and was sentenced to 12 years

A resident of Vinnytsia region was sentenced to 12 years in prison for an intentionally staged road traffic accident that injured five people, including minors. This was reported on June 4 2026 by the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine.

Prosecutors proved in court that the defendant had long been in conflict with his former cohabiting partner over jealousy. According to the prosecution, the man repeatedly threatened the woman and, in particular, said he would provoke a traffic accident while she was driving.

In May 2024 the woman was driving her 14-year-old daughter and two acquainted teenagers aged 15 and 17 years to school. A 60-year-old man was also in the car. The court found that the convicted man carried out his threats: in his own car he deliberately crashed into the side of the victim’s vehicle. As a result of the impact the car went off the road and overturned. As a result of the accident the driver and four passengers sustained bodily injuries of varying degrees of severity. After a series of expert examinations that confirmed an attempted murder, the man was notified of suspicion in November 2025.

The court imposed a sentence of 12 years imprisonment. During the pre-trial investigation and court proceedings the convicted person was held in custody. He did not admit his guilt.

This case shows how dangerous threats that at first sound like “emotions” amid jealousy or conflict can be. In this instance, according to the prosecution’s arguments, it was not an ordinary traffic accident but an intentional ramming of the car in which a woman, three teenagers and an elderly man were traveling.
