A parcel exploded during inspection: a man died at a postal terminal
Dangerous package at the terminal: police are investigating how the deadly explosion occurred
In Kyiv, police are establishing the circumstances of an explosion on the premises of a postal terminal in the Obolonskyi District of the capital. As a result of the incident one person died and two others were injured. The police of Kyiv reported this on 5 June 2026.
According to law enforcement, the explosion occurred in the morning on the premises of a postal operator’s sorting center. According to preliminary information, one of the parcels detonated during its inspection. As a result of the explosion a 59-year-old man was killed. Two other people aged 37 and 41 were wounded.
An investigative-operational team, explosive technicians of the capital police, rescuers from the State Emergency Service and medics are working at the scene. Law enforcement is establishing all the circumstances of the explosion. At present the police have not reported what exactly could have been in the parcel or what caused the explosion.
The incident at the postal terminal once again shows how dangerous shipments with unknown or suspicious contents can be. Especially in wartime conditions, when explosive items, munitions and improvised devices remain a real threat not only to military personnel but also to civilian workers who handle parcels every day.
