Shrapnel in a child's head: a three-year-old girl is being transferred to "Okhmatdyt" after a strike on a playground

Doctors continue to fight for the life of a three-year-old girl who was injured as a result of a Russian strike on a children’s playground in the Korabelnyi district of Kherson. The child remains in critical condition. This was reported on June 3, 2026 by the head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration Oleksandr Prokudin.

After the enemy strike, Kherson medics evacuated the girl to Mykolaiv. There the child underwent surgery and fragments were removed from her head. Currently, according to the regional head, in serious but stable condition she is being transported to “Okhmatdyt” by the resuscitation team of the Mykolaiv Children’s Regional Hospital.

Specialists at a Kyiv hospital are to determine further treatment tactics. Oleksandr Prokudin noted that the girl has everything necessary for treatment and is under the constant supervision of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine. The child’s mother remains in serious condition. Medics continue to fight for her life. The older, six-year-old sister, continues to receive outpatient treatment.

This tragedy was the result of a Russian strike on a civilian location where there should have been children’s laughter and safety, not debris, blood and resuscitation teams. The strike on a children’s playground once again reveals the true nature of Russia’s war against Ukraine: the enemy aims where peaceful people and children are. The head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration thanked the medics who are saving those injured after the Russian shelling.
