In the Mykolaiv region, a 64-year-old man shot dead a 4-month-old puppy that was tied up in a neighbor’s yard
The police identified the shooter within a few hours and charged him; he claims he mistook the dog for a predator
In the evening of 31 May in the Pryvilne community of Mykolaiv Oblast a 64-year-old local resident fired a shotgun at a neighbor’s dog; the animal died from its injury. Investigators identified a suspect and informed him of suspicion of animal cruelty, which carries up to 8 years in prison.
The Department of Police Communications and the Prosecutor’s Office of Mykolaiv Oblast reported the incident and the procedural actions regarding the suspect.
According to the investigation, a 41-year-old owner contacted law enforcement and reported that an unknown person had shot her tied 4-month-old Central Asian Shepherd puppy in the yard, and the animal died on the spot.
Within a few hours, police established the involvement of a 64-year-old fellow villager, who explained that he allegedly mistook the dog for another animal that was damaging his property and killing domestic poultry.
The man has been charged with animal cruelty; the sanction of the incriminated article provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for up to 8 years.
