30 downed drones and a burning oil terminal: night attack on Saint Petersburg on the eve of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF)

On the night of 3 June an attack by drones was recorded at the port of Saint Petersburg, after which a fire broke out at an oil terminal.

OSINT channels reported that after a drone threat was announced at the port explosions were heard, and eyewitness videos released show powerful flames and thick columns of black smoke.

The incident involves oil storage tanks catching fire; explosions continued into the morning, which led to the further spread of the blaze.

Leningrad Region Governor Alexander Drozdenko said around six in the morning that 30 drones had been shot down over the region, but he did not comment on the fire situation at the port.

JSC «Petersburg Oil Terminal» is one of the largest oil complexes in the northwest of Russia. On a territory of 37 ha there are 21 storage tanks for petroleum products, and the enterprise’s throughput capacity is up to 12.5 mln tons per year; the facility has strategic significance for Russia’s security and is included in the Register of Natural Monopoly Entities.

According to SPARK-Interfax, in 2024 the terminal’s revenue reached 8.6 billion rubles, and net profit — 5.8 billion rubles.

In addition, from 3 to 6 June the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum is scheduled to be held in St. Petersburg.
