3.5 million worth of provisions disappeared from a military unit's warehouse in the Mykolaiv region — the commander has been charged with negligence
The DBR found that a 39-year-old junior sergeant had withdrawn from accounting for and safeguarding property
In the Mykolaiv region, law enforcement officers have notified the warehouse chief of the material-and-technical supply platoon of one of the military units of suspicion: according to the investigation, his official negligence from October 2023 to July 2025 led to a shortage of foodstuffs and dry rations exceeding 3.5 million hryvnias.
The information was published by the Department of Information Policy and Communications of the Mykolaiv Specialized Defense Prosecutor’s Office of the Southern Region, which is conducting procedural supervision in this criminal proceeding.
According to the investigation, the 39-year-old junior sergeant, while heading the military warehouse, accepted food-service property into storage on the basis of handover-acceptance acts and invoices: food products and sets of dry rations intended to supply servicemen were delivered.
Investigators found that he failed to ensure proper accounting and safekeeping of the property, did not monitor the condition of the warehouse, and effectively abdicated his duties.
During an inventory, a significant shortage was revealed: foodstuffs — more than 2 million hryvnias, dry rations — almost 1.5 million hryvnias, which together amounts to about 3.5 million hryvnias in losses for the state in the person of the military unit.
The serviceman was charged under the Criminal Code article on negligent performance of duties by a military official that caused grave consequences under martial law; the prescribed punishment is imprisonment for up to 8 years.
The pretrial investigation is being conducted by investigators of the territorial office of the State Bureau of Investigations in Mykolaiv.
