A girl was beaten, humiliated and filmed: the court handed down a sentence to a lyceum student
Torture of a minor — and no prison: the court sentenced the schoolgirl to probationary supervision only
Pervomaiskyi City District Court of Mykolaiv Oblast issued a verdict in a case of a brutal beating of a minor girl, which was qualified as torture. The decision was made on 14 May 2026. The accused was a student of 11th grade of Pervomaiskyi Lyceum “Erudyt”.
The incident occurred on 31 May 2024 at about 17:00 in Pervomaisk. According to the case materials, the conflict between the girls arose over allegedly spreading offensive information and the victim’s communication with the boyfriend of one of the participants. The court found that the accused, together with other girls who at that time had not yet reached the age of criminal responsibility, acted with the aim of humiliating the victim, inflicting physical pain and moral suffering.
The verdict states that the victim was sitting on a step while the accused stood over her, pulled her hair, struck her on the head with her hands, forced her back onto the stairs, spat in her face and kicked her in the head. The girl covered her head with her hands and cried. The court also reviewed a video lasting 49 seconds that recorded the attack: blows, obscene language, spitting, hair-pulling and the involvement of other girls. The video recording was retained in the case materials as physical evidence.
The minor accused fully admitted guilt, confirmed the circumstances of the beating, expressed remorse and asked not to be punished harshly. The court took into account that she had no prior convictions, studies at the lyceum, and was not registered with juvenile prevention or the child welfare service. At the same time, the court considered an aggravating circumstance that the crime was committed against a young minor victim. The case also contains an expert opinion dated 15 April 2025, which found that the victim suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder related to the attack. After the beating, the girl sought psychological help. From 29 April to 30 May 2025 she received six individual consultations at the psychological service of the Mykolaiv regional branch of the Ukrainian Red Cross Society.
The victim’s representatives sought to recover 3,160 hryvnias in material damages, 200,000 hryvnias in moral damages and 20,000 hryvnias in legal costs. The court awarded the material damages in full and reduced the moral compensation to 100,000 hryvnias. As a result, the court found the schoolgirl guilty under Part 1 of Article 127 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Taking into account her age, remorse and other circumstances, she was sentenced to one year of probation supervision. She must regularly report to the probation authority, notify of any change of residence, study or work, not travel outside Ukraine without permission and complete a probation program. The verdict may be appealed to the Mykolaiv Court of Appeal within 30 days.
