400 meters? For Anton Smiyan it's just a warm-up: Mykolaiv athletes win medals again
Their rivals ran fast, but the Mykolaiv juniors still secured a spot in the top three
The athletes of Mykolaiv’s MSDYuSShOR in athletics successfully competed at the Ukrainian team athletics championships among juniors. This was reported on May 22 2026 by the Mykolaiv City Council.
The competitions took place May 20 and May 21 in Kropyvnytskyi. Based on the results, Mykolaiv’s athletes represented the city with honor and took third place as a team among the strongest SDYuSShORs of Ukraine.
One of the brightest performances was by Anton Smiyan. The Mykolaiv athlete became a two-time champion: he won the 400 meters and the 400 meters hurdles. Another gold for Mykolaiv was claimed by Anastasia Alemaskina. She became the winner in the 100 meters hurdles. In the same event the bronze medal was won by Karina Bukhanets, adding another medal to the team total of the Mykolaiv school. The participants of the 4×100 meters relay — Maria Fedorenko, Anastasia Alemaskina and Ksenia Lutsenko — also became bronze medalists. The athletes were prepared for the competitions by coaches Marina Chumachenko, Alla Kovpak, Viktoria Kilyarska and Iryna Shapovalova.
For Mykolaiv athletics, this result is another confirmation of the sports school’s steady work even under wartime conditions. Despite alarms, restrictions and difficult training conditions, the young athletes continue to represent the city at the national level and to compete with the country’s strongest rivals.
