A resident of the Sverdlovsk Oblast of the Russian Federation, who was serving with the occupation forces on the territory of the Pokrovskyi Raion of Donetsk Oblast, has been notified of suspicion for cruel treatment of the civilian population. According to the investigation, the Russian serviceman systematically raped a woman for more than two months, threatening to kill her.

This was reported by the Donetsk Regional Prosecutor’s Office on 12 May 2026.

The investigation established that in September 2025 a Russian serviceman, who served as a rifleman in the “114th Separate Motor Rifle Brigade”, together with two other occupiers entered one of the villages in the Pokrovskyi Raion. He signed a contract to serve in the Russian army while held in a penal colony.

The occupiers broke into the basement of a private house, where two civilians were sheltering from shelling. After that, the Russian soldiers effectively established their position there.

During one of the shellings, the man who was in the basement was killed. The woman was left alone with the Russian soldiers.

The prosecutor’s office described the circumstances of the Russian serviceman’s crime.

“In early October the suspect forcibly had sexual intercourse with her. He warned that he would not accept refusal or resistance because he had a prior conviction and could kill her. He also stated that there was an order from leadership to kill civilians,” the law enforcement officers reported.

According to the investigation, the occupier raped the woman almost every night for two months. Only in December, during counteroffensive operations, Ukrainian forces captured him, which effectively saved the victim from further abuse.

Head of the Donetsk Regional Prosecutor’s Office Pavlo Ugrovetskyi stated that sexual violence is part of the systemic crimes committed by Russian occupiers in the territories they control.

“These crimes are part of the occupiers’ systemic actions in the occupied territory of the region, accompanied by killings, torture and violence against civilians. Currently, 26 criminal proceedings are being investigated on facts of sexual violence related to the armed conflict, in which the victims are 17 women, three men and six children. Ten proceedings have been registered specifically for rape. These are horrific events and shattered human lives. Punishment for this is inevitable,” he emphasized.

Pre-trial investigation is being carried out by investigators and operatives of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Donetsk Oblast. The penalty under the article provides for 8 to 12 years of imprisonment.
