Mother's Day in Ukraine — May 10: celebrated on the same day by the USA, Germany, and Japan; Britain and Poland — different dates
The holiday has had official status since 1999; Ukrainians congratulate mothers with flowers and cards and share archival photos
On Sunday, May 10, Ukraine celebrates Mother’s Day 2026 — a holiday of gratitude and respect for mothers for their love, care, and support.
In Ukraine this event traditionally takes place on the second Sunday in May, and this year the date fell on May 10. The holiday was granted official status by a presidential decree in 1999, although the custom of honoring mothers existed long before that.
On this day families across the country congratulate their mothers, give bouquets and cards, organize family gatherings and warm phone calls. On social networks Ukrainians share photos from home archives, posting words of gratitude and heartfelt wishes.
Not only Ukraine celebrates today: since in a number of countries Mother’s Day also falls on the second Sunday in May, this time it is observed on May 10 in the USA, Canada, Germany, Italy, Australia, Japan, Turkey, Brazil and other countries.
At the same time, the calendar of holidays around the world is not uniform: in the United Kingdom Mother’s Day is held in March, in France it is usually celebrated at the end of May, in Poland the date is fixed — May 26, and in Spain it is observed on the first Sunday in May.
