In the Mykolaiv region, law enforcement exposed a doctor – a member of the permanently operating off-staff military-medical commission at KNP “Berezanska Central District Hospital“, who is suspected of extorting an unlawful benefit from a wounded serviceman. This was reported on 8 May 2026 by the Mykolaiv Oblast Police and the Mykolaiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office.

According to the investigation, the medic demanded from the patient 13,000 hryvnias for unobstructed passage through the military-medical commission and for establishing a diagnosis that could later be grounds for recognizing the serviceman as unfit for service with removal from the military register. The doctor assured the wounded defender that the injury sustained was not sufficient to lawfully make such a decision. Law enforcement detained the suspect immediately after the transfer of funds in accordance with Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. The doctor has already been notified of suspicion under Part 3 of Art. 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – receiving an unlawful benefit combined with extortion.

A decision on choosing a preventive measure for him is currently being considered. Under the charged article, the suspect faces from five to 10 years’ imprisonment with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to three years, as well as confiscation of property.
