President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky May 6, 2026 said that Russia has effectively broken the ceasefire by continuing active combat operations, assaults, and strikes with drones, aerial bombs and missiles.
According to the head of state, after brutal strikes on Ukrainian cities and communities, including Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia, Kramatorsk and other populated areas, the Russian army did not stop during this day either. Zelensky emphasized that the aggressor country’s choice is an obvious rejection of silence and the preservation of human lives.
Assault actions continue on all key sections of the front. Just since the start of the day, according to the president, Russian forces carried out almost 30 assaults. More than 20 air strikes were also recorded, using more than 70 aerial bombs just during the night and morning of May 6. In addition, at night the Russian army attacked Ukraine with drones of various types. Ukraine’s defense forces neutralized almost 90 attack drones. There were also missile strikes.
As of 10:00 a.m. on May 6, according to Volodymyr Zelensky, the Russian army carried out 1,820 violations of the ceasefire. These include shelling, assault attempts, air strikes and the use of drones.
The President thanked Ukrainian servicemen for defending positions and reminded that Ukraine had previously clearly stated it would give a mirror response to actions by the Russian side. He said that Russia, through media and social networks, insistently asked for “silence” during the Moscow parade, but continued the war itself.
“For all normal people it is obvious that a full-scale war and daily killings of people are a bad time for public “celebrations”,” said Zelensky.
The President stressed that it is Russia that must end the war it is waging against Ukraine. He noted that even with the internet turned off and most Russians’ communications blocked, it is obvious: the Russian leadership can “come out of the bunker” and choose peace.
According to Zelensky, Ukrainian diplomatic proposals are already with the Russian side. Only Russia’s willingness to move toward a real peace is needed, not to simulate it under the cover of holiday dates.
As of May 6, 2026 the president stated that the Russian side had broken the ceasefire. Further actions by Ukraine will be determined after evening reports from the military and intelligence services.
“As of this day we state that the Russian side has broken the ceasefire. Based on the results of the evening reports of our military and intelligence, we will determine our further actions. Glory to Ukraine!”
