Took offense after an argument and burned his partner's belongings: "showdown" in the Mykolaiv region ended in arrest
Couldn't hold back his emotions - set fire to a rented home
In Pervomaisk in Mykolaiv Oblast a domestic dispute between cohabitants ended with arson, a fire in a residential house, and the detention of a suspect. According to the police, a 27-year-old resident of the district center, after a conflict with the woman, set fire to her belongings and then fled. This caused the rented dwelling the couple shared to catch fire.
The 8 April 2026 fire in the house was reported to law enforcement late in the evening by a 31-year-old woman. A crime scene team and rescuers were dispatched and extinguished the blaze. During the inspection, police seized charred fragments and sent them for expert examination.
As established by law enforcement, that evening the cohabitants were drinking alcohol, an argument broke out between them, after which the man, offended, set the woman’s things on fire. According to the investigation, this caused the fire in the rented house. After initial search measures, police located the young man and brought him to the district police station.
Investigators detained the suspect in the course of proceedings and announced suspicion under Part 2 of Article 194 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – intentional destruction or damage of property by arson.
The article’s sanction provides for up to 10 years of imprisonment. Currently the court has already imposed pretrial detention on the suspect with the option to post bail.
The pretrial investigation in the case continues under the procedural supervision of the Specialized Defense Prosecutor’s Office of the Southern Region.
