1,000 UAH for a like: the court fined a resident of the Korabelnyi district who terrorized his own wife
Police camera footage revealed the full truth about the family's "disciplinary process"
One of the episodes of domestic violence in the Korabelnyi district of the city of Mykolaiv reached its logical conclusion in the district court chamber. A November quarrel in one of the apartments, where the man decided to prove his point by using profanity and threats against his wife, ended with a fine. Despite the fact that the “protagonist” himself did not attend the hearing, there was more than enough evidence of his guilt. Already in 2026 the judge issued a verdict: he will have to pay for the psychological terror.
The incident itself occurred on November 7, 2025, at around 15:00. In his own home, the temporarily unemployed Oleksandr Choporov committed domestic violence against his wife of a psychological and physical nature, namely he threatened and insulted the victim with obscene language.
The police officers who arrived at the call recorded the fact of domestic violence, and an urgent restraining order was immediately issued against the abuser to protect the woman from further attacks.
The judge Tetyana Holovina heard the case in the absence of the offender. The man had been notified about the hearing but decided to ignore it. However, this did not hinder the administration of justice, as his guilt was confirmed by:
- body-worn camera videos, which captured the man’s behavior;
- a statement and the victim’s written explanations;
- an official risk assessment form.
The court found the man guilty of committing domestic violence (Part 1 of Article 173-2 of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses). The punishment turned out to be “soft”, but significant for the unemployed person’s budget.
Financial tally of the aggression:
- 340 UAH — a fine payable to the state.
- 665.60 UAH — court fee.
In total, for a single episode of obscene language the man will have to pay over 1000 hryvnias.
Unfortunately, far from every episode of domestic violence is reported to the police, and among those cases that are registered and reach the court — not every one receives a real punishment.
