One-time state assistance payments in the amount of 1500 hryvnias have begun in Ukraine for pensioners and recipients of social benefits; the start of the program was announced by the Minister of Social Policy, Family and Unity Denys Ulyutin.
According to the minister, the Pension Fund has already credited payments for 540 thousand recipients who receive pensions through Ukrposhta. The main period of transfers is planned for 7–8 April, after which funds will be distributed in stages over several days.
This is a one-time payment that can be used for any needs — groceries, medicines, payment of utility bills, or other essential expenses. By the end of April the assistance should cover about 13 million citizens, and transfers will be made through the usual channels: to bank accounts or via Ukrposhta. There is no need to submit separate applications.
From 8 April Ukrposhta began the actual payment of assistance. Funds are credited together with pensions and other types of social support, so recipients will not have to undergo any additional procedures.
Eligible to receive the payment are retirees, persons with disabilities, low-income families, recipients of basic social assistance, internally displaced persons, large families, and single mothers.
For pensioners the supplement is provided on the condition that the total amount of the pension together with allowances does not exceed 25 950 hryvnias. At the same time some categories will receive assistance regardless of income level — these include participants in the defense of Ukraine, family members of fallen or missing defenders, as well as liquidators of the Chernobyl disaster.
If a person belongs to several of the specified groups, the payment is credited only once. The program is in effect throughout April.
