Ukraine will launch the first train to Bulgaria via Romania — a joint test run already this summer
In Kyiv, Kuleba and Ismailov discussed coordination among three countries; the schedule and tariffs will be announced later
Ukraine is preparing to launch a passenger train to Bulgaria via Romania as early as this summer: it concerns a test run that is to connect the three countries, the Ministry of Communities and Territories Development reported on its Telegram channel.
The project was discussed during a meeting of Deputy Prime Minister Oleksiy Kuleba with Bulgaria’s Transport Minister Korman Ismailov in Kyiv, where the parties agreed on next steps for organizing the international route.
At the initial stage a test run is planned; specific parameters — timetable, ticket prices and list of stop cities — have not yet been made public.
The route will run through the territory of Romania, and the initiative will be implemented through joint efforts of the three states, which is seen as a step towards deeper integration of Ukraine into the pan-European transport space.
In addition to the railway topic, the talks covered the development of key international transport corridors, the formation of a Danube cluster and the modernization of road infrastructure.
Deputy Prime Minister Oleksiy Kuleba commented on the importance of the new connection for interaction with the European transport market.
The launch of rail service between Ukraine and Bulgaria – it is not only about convenience for people, but also about strengthening our integration with the European transport space
He also emphasized the real demand for such a route and stated that all three countries will make every effort for the train to start running already this summer.
