A man who wounded police officers in Odesa died during a forcible arrest
He hid, but it didn't save him: how several hours of the Odessa shooter's escape ended
In the morning of 26 March 2026, the National Police of Ukraine reported that the man who the day before had shot at patrol officers in Odesa died during detention. According to law enforcement, the 45-year-old Odesa resident was hiding in an unfinished building, did not make contact with the negotiator and, during the special operation, opened fire on KORD fighters.
The National Police stated that the use of force was forced, as the man posed a direct threat to the lives of law enforcement officers. After several hours of searching, police established his location: the suspect had hidden in an unfinished building. During negotiations he began shooting from the third floor at special forces, after which KORD fighters returned fire. As a result, the man died. Local media add that the detention took place in the village of Svitlye in the Odesa region.
According to the police, this concerns a 45-year-old Odesa resident who was wanted for violating military registration rules. The day before, during a document check, he began shooting at patrol officers with an automatic rifle and fled by car. As a result of the attack two law enforcement officers sustained gunshot wounds.
An investigative-operational team is currently working at the scene; the incident has been reported to the State Bureau of Investigation and the prosecutor’s office. Investigators are establishing the circumstances of the event.
Recall that, according to the Ukrainian police, on the evening of 25 March 2026 in Odesa a driver suddenly opened fire on patrol police officers. The incident occurred during a document check of the driver. As a result, two patrol officers sustained gunshot wounds. The wounded are receiving necessary medical assistance. A special police operation was launched to apprehend the man. It is known that he is wanted for evading mobilization.
