For each paper ticket sold, Mykolaiv drivers receive an increase in their salary
Not just the "horns" and the steering wheel: what working as a trolleybus driver in Mykolaiv really offers
March 23 2026, KP MMR “MykolaivElectrotrans” published several facts about the trolleybus driver profession that, the enterprise notes, not everyone knows. The municipal enterprise emphasizes: this job involves not only daily operation of electric transport, but also a number of professional advantages, requirements, and opportunities for growth.
One of the main features of this profession is the right to preferential retirement. According to the enterprise, women can take advantage of this after 10 years of work in the specialty, and men — after 12.5 years, provided they have at least 30 years of total work experience.
The enterprise also drew attention to the level of pay. They report that on average trolleybus drivers receive a salary at the national average — about 27,000 hryvnias.
Another important point is preparation for independent work. Future trolleybus drivers must undergo over 140 hours of internship with an experienced instructor. The practice covers all city routes, and only after this can the trainee go on the line independently. That is why, explain those at “MykolaivElectrotrans”, sometimes you can see trolleybuses on routes with two drivers and a sign “trainee at the wheel”.
The enterprise also notes that a driver can receive additional funds for selling single-use paper tickets. For each such ticket, 1 hryvnia is added to the salary. At the same time, passengers are urged to use QR-code payments more often so as not to distract the driver while the vehicle is moving.
Another feature of the profession is the class system, which directly affects earnings. In the electric transport sector there are three levels — from 3rd to 1st class. After completing training at the training and production center “MykolaivElectrotrans” each graduate begins at 3rd class and can further improve their qualifications.
The municipal enterprise also reported that recruitment is currently underway for a new group of future trolleybus drivers. You can submit an application until April 19. Candidates are provided with training lasting 14 weeks, a monthly stipend of 12,000 hryvnias, preferential travel on Mykolaiv’s electric transport, practical training including on new rolling stock, and after completing the course — official employment, a full social package, and the opening of a new driver category.
People aged from 21 years can join the training group, which corresponds to the requirements of current legislation.
