A drunk driver who fled after hitting two pedestrians in the Korabelnyi District has been detained

The driver faces up to three years in prison

In the Korabelnyi district of the city of Mykolaiv on the evening of March 18, 2026 on Bohoyavlenskyi Ave. (in the area of the railway crossing, near the intersection of the avenue and Samoylovych St.) a road traffic accident with casualties occurred: a car hit two pedestrians and, without stopping, drove away from the scene.

According to the police, at about 18:55 the emergency line 102 received a report that the driver of a Hyundai Tucson had struck two pedestrians — a 50-year-old woman and a 70-year-old man. According to preliminary data, they were crossing the roadway at an unmarked location. The victims with injuries were hospitalized: the man received assistance and was prescribed outpatient treatment, while doctors assess the woman’s condition as of moderate severity.

After the accident the driver fled the scene. But police quickly established the location of the vehicle and its 35-year-old driver — he was found within a few minutes, a few blocks from the crash site. During the check, 1.3 per mille of alcohol was recorded in the driver.

Investigators have opened a criminal proceeding in connection with this accident under part 1 of Article 286-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The driver faces up to three years of imprisonment with deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for a period of three to five years.
