Scandal in Mykolaiv region: the starosta has been accused of murdering an assistant
Investigators report a shooting with a shotgun; the suspect has been detained, and the court will decide on a preventive measure
The village head who fatally shot his subordinate in the Mykolaiv region has been notified of suspicion: the incident occurred on Tuesday, 17 March, at about 08:25 in the premises of the starosta district office in the village of Plyushchivka, Bashtanka district.
The regional units of the police and the prosecutor’s office handling the case reported the notice of suspicion and the initial findings of the investigation.
According to investigators, a 55-year-old village head and his 51-year-old colleague were in the building at the time of the incident. They had long-standing hostile relations, which led to a new quarrel.
During the conflict the man took a sawn-off hunting shotgun from his office, went to the woman’s workplace and fired at least three shots at her head.
The victim died at the scene. After that the suspect himself called the emergency line 102 and admitted to the act, after which he was detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. A shotgun and shells were seized from the premises as physical evidence.
The body of the deceased was sent for a forensic medical examination to establish the circumstances of death.
The detainee has been charged under Part 1 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, the sanction of which provides for up to 15 years of imprisonment. An additional criminal proceeding has been opened for illegal possession of a weapon under Part 1 of Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine; after expert examinations are carried out, the question of a separate notice of suspicion for this episode will be decided.
The court is expected to determine a preventive measure for the suspect in the near future; the pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
