The explosion of a cartridge in Mykolaiv injured two teenagers
Police are investigating the circumstances of the incident on the morning of March 18
In Mykolaiv, the police are clarifying the circumstances of an explosion that injured two minors; the incident was reported on Wednesday, 18 March.
According to the Communications Department of the Mykolaiv Regional Police, the report published on the website, law enforcement continue to determine all the details of the incident.
Medics hospitalized boys aged 14 and 15 with multiple injuries. Doctors diagnosed the victims with chemical burns, mine-blast injuries, fractures and lacerations.
Preliminary findings indicate that the teenagers were near a canal in a field where they found a regenerative cartridge and a liquid. According to the investigation, they poured the liquid into the cartridge, after which, possibly due to a chemical reaction, an explosion occurred.
A forensic-operational team worked at the scene together with explosive ordnance disposal specialists. Experts seized the remains of the said cartridge and a plastic container with liquid that remained after the incident.
Both victims were taken to a hospital in Mykolaiv, where medics assess their condition as of moderate severity. The boys are receiving necessary care.
A criminal case has been opened under Art. 128 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — “Negligent infliction of serious or moderate bodily injury”. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
