Attempt to export shipbuilding developments: scientist to stand trial in Mykolaiv region
According to the investigation, the documents were intended to be handed over to a foreign company
A leading specialist at a research and design institution in Mykolaiv region will stand trial, accused of attempting to illegally take shipbuilding design documentation out of the country. The pre-trial investigation has been completed, and the indictment has been submitted to court. The materials involved in the case are subject to state export controls.
According to investigators, the researcher intended to hand the documentation over to representatives of a foreign company. The designs were intended for one of the countries in the Asia-Pacific region.
Investigators believe that, to take the materials out of Ukraine, the man tried to conceal them from customs control: he saved files containing the design documentation onto an electronic storage device that he planned to take abroad.
Employees of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) identified the alleged unlawful plans in advance and stopped the attempted illegal export at an international road border crossing.
During an inspection at the border crossing and searches at the man’s residence, law enforcement officers seized:
- computer equipment;
- electronic storage devices;
- technical documentation;
- other materials that, according to investigators, may indicate preparations to unlawfully transfer the designs.
The court will determine whether the accused is guilty.
