Driving himself: a veteran from Mykolaiv Oblast was reimbursed for vehicle modifications
Mykhailo Fateyev received 62,000 hryvnias in state compensation
A war veteran from Mykolaiv region, Mykhailo Fatieiev, received 62,000 hryvnias in state compensation for adapting his car for hand controls. The modified vehicle has helped him regain his independence in everyday life.
The program reimburses documented actual expenses for adapting a vehicle. The maximum compensation is 70,000 hryvnias. The funds are paid from the state budget under Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine Resolution No. 1442.
41-year-old Mykhailo Fatieiev took part in efforts to defend Ukraine and protect its citizens. He was seriously wounded while carrying out a combat mission in Kursk region on Independence Day. After being wounded, the veteran underwent rehabilitation for two years.
In February 2026, he was assigned Group II disability status as a result of the war. Despite what he has been through, he continues to work actively and help others: he now works at a rehabilitation center run by the Ukrainian Red Cross Society.
“For me, having my own car isn’t about comfort—it’s about regaining my independence. Being wounded shouldn’t bring life to a halt. Now I can visit my mother, bring drinking water home, drive to work at the rehabilitation center without worry, and take care of everyday matters—all without anyone’s help,” veteran Mykhailo Fatieiev said.
He also emphasized the importance of state support, which enables people with disabilities to regain their independence.
