October 11, 2012: City councilors once again postponed creating a park in Korabelnyi
At a session of the Mykolaiv City Council, the issue of creating a park on a vacant lot near Torhova Street was once again postponed. Councilor Oleh Mudrak insisted on creating a green space, while councilor Valentyn Lebedenko claimed that some residents would prefer a sports ground there. Due to the disagreement, the issue was deferred to the next session.
October 11, 2014: Keys to apartments handed to those affected by the explosion in Namyv
During a visit to Mykolaiv, Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk handed over keys to new apartments to 5 families who had lost their homes in a gas explosion at 40 Lazurna Street. The tragedy occurred on May 12, 2014: 7 people died, and 80 families were left homeless. Apartments in a new residential complex were purchased for those affected.
October 11, 2017: “University of the Third Age” opens in Kulbakyno
A day-care branch of the territorial social services center was officially opened at the House of Culture in the Kulbakyno neighborhood, part of Korabelnyi District. The “University of the Third Age” began operating there, offering retirees free classes in computer literacy, foreign languages, and other subjects. Residents were also promised help applying for subsidies and benefits.
October 11, 2021: High-profile scandal over the closure of the STEM tennis club
The Korabelov.info editorial team reported on the conflict that led to the closure of the STEM table tennis club at the former Palace of Culture of Metallurgists in Korabelnyi District. The club had operated there for about 2 years. According to its managers, they were asked to accept a rent increase from 10,000 to 22,000 hryvnias per month. The business center representatives had their own complaints about the tenants. The parties never reached an agreement.
October 11, 2022: Five Shahed drones shot down over Mykolaiv Oblast
In the morning, between 03:30 and 05:30, air defense units of the “South” Air Command shot down 5 Russian Shahed-136 kamikaze drones over Mykolaiv Oblast. Another 3 drones were destroyed over neighboring Odesa Oblast. This happened the day after Russia launched a massive missile attack on Ukraine.
October 11, 2024: Trolleybus crashes into a pole, injuring 15 passengers
At around 07:15, a trolleybus crashed into an electric utility pole on Tsentralnyi Avenue in Mykolaiv. According to updated police data, 15 passengers were injured, including 3 children aged 12 to 14. Initial reports mentioned only 6 injured people. Later, a 35-year-old driver was notified that he was suspected of violating road traffic safety rules.
On this day in Ukraine: October 11, 2018 — a major decision on autocephaly
The Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate confirmed its intention to grant autocephaly to the Orthodox Church in Ukraine and revoked the legal force of the synodal letter of 1686, which had granted the Moscow Patriarch the right to ordain the Metropolitan of Kyiv under certain conditions. This was an important step toward church independence. The Tomos itself was signed on January 5, 2019.
