Exit of a Mykolaiv man wanted over $10,000: drivers accused of bribing a border guard
Both were detained at "Yahodyn" and taken into custody with the possibility of bail
Two drivers of an international scheduled bus were detained at the checkpoint «Yahodyn» while handing over $10,000 to a border guard. The case concerns an attempt to, for a bribe, ensure the departure abroad of a resident of Mykolaiv.
The passenger is wanted for violating military registration rules. The drivers are accused of intending to pay a servicemember so that he would not enter the man’s details into the relevant database and would allow him to cross the state border.
The plan to transport this passenger was jointly established by:
- operatives of the Department of Internal and Own Security for the 6th border detachment;
- SBU officers;
- police officers.
The border guard informed law enforcement about the offered bribe. Both drivers were notified of suspicion. The court ordered pre-trial detention for them, providing for the possibility of posting bail. The investigation is ongoing.
