A grandson burned his grandmother’s body in a garden in the Lviv region: he says he was carrying out her wishes

The remains were gathered in a pot; police are investigating the case as intentional homicide

In the village of Ilnyk of the Turkivska community in the Lviv region, a grandson, after his grandmother’s death, burned her body in the garden next to the house where she lived. The man explained this was allegedly carrying out the deceased’s will. At the same time, the police are investigating the case as an intentional homicide.

The incident occurred on September 16, 2026. Its circumstances are set out in the ruling of the Turkiv District Court of Lviv Oblast, which is reported by Zaxid.net. According to the case materials, after burning the body the man collected the remains together with the ashes into two large pots.

The deceased’s daughter — the man’s mother — contacted the police. She also stated that her mother had allegedly bequeathed to have her body burned after death.

At the scene, law enforcement officers seized items that may be evidence:

  • a video camera with a battery and a flash drive;
  • kitchen and utility knives;
  • scissors;
  • a beer bottle;
  • a container with traces of fuel and lubricants;
  • pots with ashes.

The court placed the seized property under arrest. They are planned to be sent for expert analysis.

The criminal proceedings are being conducted under Part 1 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — intentional homicide. The circumstances of the death and the subsequent burning of the body remain under investigation.
