Died right on the tracks: an electric train fatally struck a 78-year-old man in Mykolaiv region

In Pervomaisk, Mykolaiv region a passenger electric train ran over a 78-year-old local resident. The man died at the scene from his injuries. This was reported on 21 September 2026 by the Main Directorate of the National Police in Mykolaiv region.

The tragedy occurred in the evening of 19 September 2026 at the 144th kilometer of the railway track of the “Holta – Orlyk” section in Pervomaisk. At approximately 19:00 the Pervomaisk district police department received a report that a passenger electric train on the “Odesa – Podilsk – Pomichna” route had struck a man. The victim was a 78-year-old local resident. He died at the scene as a result of his injuries. An investigative-operational team from the Pervomaisk district police department and a forensic expert worked on the railway. After the examination, the body of the deceased was sent for a forensic medical examination. Its results are expected to establish the final cause of the man’s death.

Investigators classified the incident under Part 3 of Article 276 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – violation of safety rules for the operation or use of railway, water or air transport that caused the death of people. The article’s penalty provides for up to 10 years imprisonment. So far, the police have not reported suspicions against anyone – law enforcement continues to establish the causes and all circumstances of the tragedy.
