30 August in the history of Mykolaiv and the region brought together Ukrainian literature, the memory of a well-known Mykolaiv resident, a Russian strike on an enterprise in the Korabelnyi district and a mass run in honor of fallen defenders.
30 August 1922: Pavlo Glazovyi was born in the Mykolaiv region
In the village of Novoskeluvatka, which now belongs to Bashtanka Raion, the Ukrainian poet-humorist and satirist Pavlo Glazovyi was born. He worked in the genres of humoresque, fable and comic monologue, writing works for adults and children. For his contribution to culture the writer was awarded the title of Honored Art Worker of Ukraine and received the Order of Merit, 3rd class. Source: Mykolaiv Regional Library for Children.
30 August 1993: Mykolaiv honorary citizen Mark Lysiansky passed away
On this day the poet Mark Lysiansky died; his childhood and youth were spent in Mykolaiv. From 1929 to 1932 he worked at the Mykolaiv Shipbuilding Plant, participated in the factory literary association «Shkiv» and published his first poems in the local press. Since 1988 he held the title of Honorary Citizen of Mykolaiv.
30 August 2022: deadly strike on the Korabelnyi district
Around 14:15 Russian forces carried out a rocket-artillery strike on enterprises in the Korabelnyi district of Mykolaiv. According to preliminary data from the regional military administration, Smerch systems with cluster munitions were used. At one of the enterprises a 48-year-old civilian employee was killed and at least one man was wounded.
30 August 2025: more than 500 Mykolaiv residents ran for the Heroes
A nationwide run called “I honor the warriors, I run for the Heroes of Ukraine” took place in Mykolaiv. More than 500 people joined — families of fallen servicemen, volunteers, veterans, service members and city residents. After a minute of silence participants ran from Admiralska Street via Soborna to the Regional Palace of Culture.
30 August in the world: International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances
The United Nations observes the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances. It was established to support missing persons and their families, who for years may not know the truth about the fate of their loved ones. The date has been observed annually since 2011.
That is how it remained in history, 30 August: with Pavlo Glazovyi’s humour, remembrance of fallen defenders and the pain of the Korabelnyi district, which endured yet another Russian shelling.
