President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a decree imposing sanctions on the creators and distributors of the animated series “Masha and the Bear”. This was reported by the Office of the President of Ukraine.

According to the official statement, sanctions were imposed against five citizens of Russia and four organizations associated with the creation and distribution of the animated series.

The sanctions list includes the studio “Animaccord”, which is the author of the series, its founder and CEO. The restrictions also concern the screenwriter, director, producer and co-author of the series, who pays taxes to the budget of Russia. Separately, sanctions were applied to the owner of the rights to the animated series “Masha and the Bear”.

The Office of the President of Ukraine stated that the cartoon “spreads pro‑Russian narratives disguised as children’s content, which poses a threat to Ukraine’s national security”.

Previously, Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the introduction of several new sanction packages against Russia.
