A Jack Russell is being prepared for surgery after a ride in a TCK car: animal welfare activists appealed to the police

Animal rights activists are demanding an investigation into the circumstances of the injury of a dog of the Jack Russell Terrier breed, which, according to eyewitnesses, people in military uniform took into a minibus during a conflict with its guardian in Odesa.

The video of the incident circulated on social networks on 25 June 2026. According to local pages, the event took place in the area of the residential complex “Prostir” on Heraneva Street, near Admiralskyi Avenue.

The released footage shows men dressed in military uniform walking with the dog. After the animal was taken into one of the minibuses, the man ran after the vehicles and asked them to return his four-legged companion.

In one of the videos he tried to approach the vehicle and get the dog back. In response, people in uniform used tear gas spray against him; some of the men also had their faces covered.

Animal rights activists claim that later the Jack Russell Terrier was found approximately half a kilometer from the scene. According to information circulated on social networks, the dog had serious injuries, including a damaged paw.

The dog’s guardian reports that the animal is at home and is being prepared for surgery. We do not yet have veterinary findings, so we do not know the animal’s condition.

” UAnimals filed a report with the police to clarify all circumstances. In the statement we request:

• ⁠to seize and examine recordings from the body cameras of police officers and representatives of TCK, as well as other available video materials;
• if the fact of cruel treatment of the animal is confirmed, to bring those responsible to justice in accordance with the law.

We are currently awaiting an official response from law enforcement. If necessary, we will turn to the State Bureau of Investigations to check possible unlawful actions by officials”, – the message reads.

As of the time of publication, the Odesa Regional TCK and SP and the police have not officially reported their own version of the incident. Therefore, claims about where and under what circumstances the dog sustained injuries currently require verification by law enforcement.
