"Don't be silent. Captivity kills": in Mykolaiv they reminded people about prisoners of war and the missing
The joy of return and the pain of waiting: Mykolaiv residents have once again taken to the streets
In Mykolaiv this Sunday the weekly reminder action about Ukrainian prisoners of war and missing defenders took place again. This was reported on June 7 2026 by the city mayor Oleksandr Senkevych.
This week 185 Ukrainian defenders returned home from Russian captivity. After long months and years in confinement, they are finally back in Ukraine, close to their families and under the care of those who help them recover after captivity. At the same time, Ukrainian military personnel and civilians still remain in Russian custody. Many families continue to wait for their loved ones, some of whom are considered missing.
That is why Mykolaiv residents take to the streets every Sunday to remind everyone: prisoners must not disappear from the information space, and society must not get used to their absence.
“This Sunday Mykolaiv residents came out again to remind: our people remain in captivity. We are waiting for each and every one. We will not stop until everyone returns”, – emphasized Oleksandr Senkevych.
The city will wait for each and every one until all Ukrainians return home. Participants of the action once again urged people not to be silent about the prisoners.
“Don’t be silent. Captivity kills”, – the unchanging message of such gatherings.
For the families of prisoners of war and the missing, these actions are not a symbolic gesture but a way to keep the issue in the public sphere. Because every reminder, every poster and every mention of the prisoners is pressure on the world, on international organizations and on everyone who must help bring Ukrainians home.
The return of 185 defenders this week was a great joy for the country. But as long as Ukrainians remain in Russian torture chambers, such actions in Mykolaiv and other cities remain necessary.
