An intoxicated 18-year-old woman attacked a serviceman after being asked not to swear on public transport

In Kyiv police detained an 18-year-old girl who, according to investigators, struck a serviceman in the head with a bottle over a remark on public transport. This was reported by the Main Department of the National Police in the city of Kyiv.

The incident occurred on 21 May 2026 in the Shevchenkivskyi District of the capital. The 52-year-old serviceman was returning home by trolleybus after duty and made a remark to an intoxicated young woman and her companion, who were behaving loudly and swearing in the cabin. In response, the youths started a conflict. Already at the public transport stop the 18-year-old offender, according to the police, struck the victim in the head with a bottle. After the attack the man sustained injuries: contusion of the soft tissues of the head. Medics also preliminarily diagnosed a closed traumatic brain injury. The serviceman refused hospitalization.

Law enforcement detained the attacker in accordance with Art.298-2 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. A criminal proceeding has been initiated on the basis of the incident under Part 1 of Art.125 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. A notification of suspicion is being prepared for the detainee. In addition, police drew up administrative materials against the offenders under Art.173 of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offences – petty hooliganism, and under Art.175-1 of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offences – smoking tobacco products in prohibited areas.

This case again shows how quickly an ordinary remark on public transport can escalate into aggression and a criminal case. It looks particularly cynical given that the serviceman was returning home after duty while the country continues to face war against Russian aggression.
