The Ministry for Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine has started developing new functionality for the eCherha system, which will allow it to be used not only for trucks and buses but also for passenger cars. The ministry’s press service reported this on April 20, 2026.

The initial stages will include organizing the priority system for freight transport and launching an electronic queue for passenger cars. It is expected that from June 2026 drivers will be able to pre-book border crossing times via Diia, the website, or the eCherha mobile app. This applies to both Ukrainian citizens and foreign nationals traveling in their own cars.

One of the key innovations will be the automatic verification of the insurance policy “Green Card“. For this, it will be enough to enter the vehicle registration number — the system will automatically fetch the necessary data.

Changes will also affect commercial transport. For trucks and buses, they plan to streamline the priority passage system and introduce new functions — in particular, online verification of customs documents such as T1 or the TIR carnet.

In addition, passenger carriers will be given the ability to book queue slots for transit routes, re-register trips, and replace the vehicle.

Another innovation will be one-time use of documents for non-scheduled transport, including pages of the Interbus logbook or transport permits. This will prevent repeated use of documents in the system.

A separate element will be integration with the id.gov.ua system, which will allow electronic identification of passenger car users.

The Deputy Prime Minister for Ukraine’s Recovery — Minister for Communities and Territories Development, Oleksii Kuleba, emphasized that the system has already proven its effectiveness for freight transport — during its operation there have been more than 3 million border crossings booked online.

“We continue to systematically develop eCherha as a tool for transparent and predictable border crossing. The system does not simply replace physical waiting in line; it allows us to ensure predictable logistics and the ability to plan transport. During the operation of this project, there have been over 3 million border crossings by trucks and buses booked online. A logical continuation of this project is scaling it to passenger cars, which we are actively working on. At the same time, we are improving mechanisms for commercial transport. Our goal is to make border crossing more convenient for people and businesses,” the statement reads.
