In Mykolaiv on Friday, 27 March, events were held to honor the memory of the city’s liberators from Nazi occupiers on the eve of the 82nd anniversary of its liberation.

The Mykolaiv Regional Administration reported on the ceremony.

Flowers were laid at the Memorial Complex in honor of the heroes of the K.F. Olshansky detachment. The commemorative date is traditionally observed on 28 March — the day in 1944 when Nazi troops were driven out of Mykolaiv.

Among the participants were the head of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration Vitaliy Kim, his deputies, the mayor Oleksandr Senkevych, representatives of the regional council, as well as service members, rescuers, law enforcement officers and city residents.

Attendees honored the dead with a minute of silence, paying tribute to those who during the Second World War liberated Mykolaiv at the cost of their own lives.

Speeches by participants emphasized the importance of preserving historical memory and stressed that the liberators’ feat is a symbol of the courage and resilience of the Ukrainian people.

The announcement on the occasion of the event noted:

“Today, under the conditions of a full-scale war, Ukrainians are again forced to defend their state. Faith in victory, the restoration of destroyed cities and the return of all territories unite society and give strength to continue the struggle for Ukraine’s independence and freedom”, – the statement said.
