In Mykolaiv, a TCC serviceman was detained after receiving a bribe: he had promised to remove someone from the wanted list for $600
The scheme was uncovered as part of an anti-corruption program; the suspect was taken into custody with the option of bail, he faces up to eight years in prison, and possible accomplices are being identified
In March in Mykolaiv, law enforcement officers detained a serviceman of the Territorial Recruitment Center who, for a fee, promised to help citizens evade service and remove them from the wanted list for violations of military registration rules.
The regional police and the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office of the Southern Region reported the exposure.
According to investigators, the suspect, 46, offered “clients” a service to remove them from the list of those wanted, assuring that for 600 dollars he could influence officials and enter false information into the state conscripts’ register “Oberih”, which would allow the necessary entries to be deleted.
Operational measures were carried out under the program “Reverse Side of TCC and VLK”, which is aimed at detecting corruption offenses in the field of mobilization.
The investigation found that in February this year a rifleman — assistant to a grenadier of the security unit of the RTC and SP in Mykolaiv — learned about a citizen who was planning to get a job and was wanted due to untimely updating of his military registration data.
For 600 dollars the serviceman promised to “solve the issue” by influencing officials of the TCC and SP in order to remove the relevant information from the wanted database. He provided instructions on preparing a sample application for removal from the wanted list and asked to hand over personal data together with the money.
During personal meetings the suspect assured of alleged agreements with officials and described the distribution of the illicit benefit among the participants of the scheme.
After receiving the documents and 22 000 hryvnias, the man was detained in accordance with Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. The court chose a preventive measure — detention with the possibility of bail, and under the charged articles he faces up to 8 years in prison with confiscation of property.
