Establishments that provide venues for such events would also face penalties.<\/p>\n<p>Language ombudswoman <strong>Olena Ivanovska<\/strong> explained the initiative during the <strong>\u201cCulture on the Agenda\u201d<\/strong> program. Her remarks were <a href=\"https:\/\/suspilne.media\/culture\/1445335-rosijskomovni-pisni-hocut-zaboroniti-na-koncertah-i-v-zakladah-so-proponuut-zminiti-v-zakoni\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported by<\/a> <strong>Suspilne Culture<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, the <strong>Law on Culture<\/strong> restricts public Russian-language content only when it is produced by citizens of <strong>Russia<\/strong>. This is set to change under a new version of <strong>Article 15<\/strong>, prepared by a working group of the <strong>Verkhovna Rada<\/strong> Committee on Humanitarian Policy at the initiative of MP <strong>Oleksandr Sanchenko<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The proposed restrictions apply to concerts, public events, and public spaces, but not to private creative work. Concert hall, restaurant, and caf\u00e9 owners would also be held accountable.<\/p>\n<p>The following penalties are proposed for violations:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>for a <strong>first<\/strong> offense \u2014 a warning or a fine of <strong>UAH 13,600 to 17,000<\/strong>;<\/li>\n<li>for a repeat offense within a year \u2014 a fine of <strong>UAH 20,400 to 25,500<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Reports of violations will be accepted on the language ombudswoman\u2019s website for further review.<\/p>\n<p>No exceptions are \u043f\u0440\u0435\u0434\u0443\u0441\u043c\u043e\u0442\u0440ed for archival films screened for scientific or educational purposes. As <strong>Ivanovska<\/strong> explained, films may be shown in their original language only with subtitles or simultaneous translation.<\/p>\n<p>The ombudswoman also raised the issue of regulating Russian-language content online.
