November 1<\/strong> left a notable mark on the history of Korabelnyi District<\/strong> and Mykolaiv<\/strong>. More than a century ago, shipbuilders launched two warships on the same day. Later, the Ocean shipyard saw protests and the threat of liquidation, while local elections were decided by a margin of just a few votes. The history of this date also includes the memory of fallen defenders, Russian missile attacks, a destroyed forest, and major sporting victories.<\/p>\n

November 1, 1913<\/strong>: a battleship and a submarine were launched in Mykolaiv<\/h2>\n

On this day according to the modern calendar, or October 19, 1913<\/strong>, Old Style, the battleship Empress Maria, armed with 12 305 mm guns<\/strong>, was launched at the Russud shipyard in Mykolaiv. On the same day, the Baltic Shipyard\u2019s Mykolaiv branch launched the Morzh-class submarine Tyulen. Both ships later took part in World War I. The battleship sank after an explosion in Sevastopol in 1916<\/strong>, while the submarine met its end in Bizerte, France.<\/p>\n

November 1, 1917<\/strong>: a famous actress was born in Mykolaiv<\/h2>\n

Hanna Lysianska<\/strong>, a future theater and film actress, was born in Mykolaiv<\/strong>. As the Encyclopedia of Modern Ukraine notes<\/a>, she grew up in a theatrical family, performed on stage from childhood, worked at the Mykolaiv theater, and later became widely known for her film roles. She died in Israel on December 2, 1999<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

November 1, 2012<\/strong>: security guards blocked the gates of the Ocean shipyard<\/h2>\n

In the morning, a protest began<\/a> outside the main entrance to the Ocean shipbuilding yard, where security guards had not been paid for 2 months<\/strong>. The workers blocked the security company\u2019s management from leaving, fearing they would lose the money they had earned. A significant number of protesters lived in Korabelnyi District. By the evening of November 2<\/strong>, the guards had secured<\/a> payment of the wages owed for September and October.<\/p>\n

November 1, 2013<\/strong>: court began Ocean\u2019s liquidation, and armed men appeared at the shipyard\u2019s administrative building<\/h2>\n

The Commercial Court of Mykolaiv Region declared<\/a> the Ocean shipbuilding yard bankrupt and opened liquidation proceedings. That same evening, employees reported<\/a> that armed, masked men had entered the shipyard\u2019s administrative building and ordered everyone to leave. Some employees feared a hostile takeover, while others said the situation was due to increased security. As of November 1<\/strong>, the shipyard owed UAH 9.77 million<\/strong> in unpaid wages to 836 employees<\/strong>. In May 2014<\/strong>, the Higher Commercial Court of Ukraine overturned the bankruptcy and liquidation ruling.<\/p>\n

November 1, 2014<\/strong>: Mykolaiv said farewell to a fallen marine<\/h2>\n

In Mykolaiv<\/strong>, mourners laid to rest<\/a> Marine Major Yurii Zahrebelnyi<\/strong>, who had been killed near Mariupol by shelling from Russian forces. The defender was only 31 years old<\/strong>. Family, fellow service members, government representatives, and city residents came to pay their respects. He was survived by his wife and young son.<\/p>\n

November 1, 2015<\/strong>: a 3-vote margin decided the city council election result<\/h2>\n

The Mykolaiv City Election Commission announced<\/a> the official results of the city council elections. The Opposition Bloc won with 34.0479%<\/strong> of the vote, securing 26 seats<\/strong>. Samopomich won 10 seats<\/strong>, while the Petro Poroshenko Bloc \u201cSolidarity\u201d and Our Land each won 9<\/strong>. Notably, the difference between the latter two parties was just 3 votes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

November 1, 2017<\/strong>: court banned the operation of 45 elevators in Korabelnyi District<\/h2>\n

The Mykolaiv District Administrative Court ruled<\/a> that 45 passenger elevators<\/strong> managed by the municipal enterprise DEZ Korabel could no longer be operated. The reason was that they lacked the required operating permit. The court also banned the use of gas equipment in some apartments in a building at 79 Olshantsiv Street<\/strong>, due to problems with the ventilation ducts. The ruling is dated November 1<\/strong>, although it was made public later.<\/p>\n

November 1, 2017<\/strong>: Serhii Ryzhkov, rector of the shipbuilding university, died<\/h2>\n

Serhii Ryzhkov<\/strong>, rector of the Admiral Makarov National University of Shipbuilding, professor, Doctor of Technical Sciences, and Honored Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine, passed away<\/a> at the age of 59<\/strong>. He had led the university since 2008<\/strong> and conducted research in ecology and shipbuilding. The date of his death is also confirmed<\/a> by the Encyclopedia of Modern Ukraine.<\/p>\n

November 1, 2018<\/strong>: Russia imposed sanctions on Nika-Tera and Nibulon<\/h2>\n

The Russian government added<\/a> the Mykolaiv companies MSP Nika-Tera, located in Korabelnyi District, and Nibulon to its sanctions list, along with Nibulon\u2019s CEO, Oleksii Vadaturskyi<\/strong>. The restrictions applied to a total of 68 Ukrainian companies<\/strong> and 322 citizens<\/strong>. Nibulon stated<\/a> that the sanctions would have no economic impact on the company, since it had no business or property in Russia.<\/p>\n

November 1, 2021<\/strong>: COVID-19 claimed 8 lives in Korabelnyi District in one week<\/h2>\n

Medical workers reported<\/a> that 587 new COVID-19 cases<\/strong> and 8 deaths<\/strong> from its complications had been recorded in Korabelnyi District over the previous week. Since the start of the pandemic, a total of 8,358 residents<\/strong> of the district had tested positive. These were among the most difficult months of the pandemic for local healthcare.<\/p>\n

November 1, 2022<\/strong>: 4 Russian missiles destroyed educational institutions in Mykolaiv<\/h2>\n

At midnight, Russian forces struck<\/a> Mykolaiv<\/strong> with 4 S-300 missiles<\/strong>. The Mykola Arkas First Ukrainian Gymnasium was damaged, and a 4-story<\/strong> building of the Mykolaiv Polytechnic Vocational School was partially destroyed. Residential buildings were also damaged. An elderly woman was killed, and 5 people<\/strong> were injured. Rescuers assisted 12 residents<\/strong> trapped in their apartments.<\/p>\n

November 1, 2022<\/strong>: Korabelnyi District said farewell to Serhii Trishchanovych<\/h2>\n

In Korabelnyi District, mourners said farewell<\/a> to Ukrainian defender Serhii Trishchanovych<\/strong>, a service member of the 14th Separate Mechanized Brigade<\/strong> named after Prince Roman the Great. He was killed on October 23, 2022<\/strong>, during combat in the Kharkiv region. The ceremony took place to the sound of artillery fire from the Mykolaiv\u2013Kherson front. The soldier was buried at Zhukovskyi Cemetery.<\/p>\n

November 1, 2022<\/strong>: Lupareve was shelled with cluster munitions<\/h2>\n

At around 14:10<\/strong> and 16:20<\/strong>, Russian forces shelled<\/a> two settlements in the Halytsynove community near Korabelnyi District. A man was injured by cluster munitions in the village of Lupareve<\/strong>. The regional military administration reported the consequences of the attack the following day.<\/p>\n

November 1, 2023<\/strong>: a combine harvester hit a mine near Snihurivka<\/h2>\n

During fieldwork near Snihurivka<\/strong>, a combine harvester struck<\/a> an explosive device. 2 men<\/strong> were injured. One of them, born in 1967<\/strong>, lost both legs in the explosion. The other injured man, born in 1961<\/strong>, declined hospitalization after a medical examination. The tragedy was a reminder of the mine danger in de-occupied areas of the Mykolaiv region.<\/p>\n

November 1, 2024<\/strong>: Halytsynove Forest lost more than 160 hectares<\/h2>\n

Korabelov.info published<\/a> information on the extensive damage caused by Russian shelling to the Halytsynove forest tract. Fires caused by strikes in 2022<\/strong> burned more than 160 hectares<\/strong> of forest. As of October 31, 2024<\/strong>, another 37 hectares<\/strong> out of the total 675 hectares<\/strong> remained dangerous due to explosive remnants. Demining of the area had been underway since June.<\/p>\n

November 1, 2025<\/strong>: a missile strike killed a 20-year-old Mykolaiv resident and injured 19 people<\/h2>\n

At around 07:20<\/strong>, Russian forces launched<\/a> a ballistic missile, reportedly an Iskander-M with a cluster warhead, at the outskirts of Mykolaiv<\/strong>. A 20-year-old man<\/strong> was killed, and 19 people<\/strong> were injured, including a 12-year-old boy<\/strong> and a 9-year-old girl<\/strong>. 3 gas stations<\/strong>, 14 vehicles<\/strong>, a private house, and a power line were damaged.<\/p>\n

November 1, 2025<\/strong>: Niko-Basket won its first home game of the season<\/h2>\n

The Mykolaiv<\/strong> basketball club Niko-Basket defeated<\/a> Staryi Lutsk 78\u201366<\/strong> in a Superleague game. It was Mykolaiv\u2019s first home win of the season, a victory the team gave to its fans.<\/p>\n

November 1, 2025<\/strong>: Mykolaiv karate athletes won 38 medals<\/h2>\n

More than 500 athletes<\/strong> competed at the Ukrainian Cup and All-Ukrainian Kyokushin Karate competitions in Dnipro<\/strong>. Representatives of the Mykolaiv region won<\/a> 38 medals<\/strong>: 17 gold<\/strong>, 13 silver<\/strong>, and 8 bronze<\/strong>. The team took second place overall<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

This day in Ukraine<\/h2>\n

On November 1, 1918<\/strong>, the November Action began<\/a> in Lviv<\/strong>\u2014an uprising in which Ukrainian forces took control of the city. The event was a defining step toward the establishment of the West Ukrainian People\u2019s Republic.<\/p>\n

On November 1, 2025<\/strong>, Russian forces launched a missile strike on a military formation site in the Dnipropetrovsk region<\/strong>. According to information established later, 19 people were killed<\/a>\u201412 service members<\/strong> and 7 civilians<\/strong>\u2014and another 36 military personnel<\/strong> were injured. According to media reports, those killed included members of the 35th Marine Brigade<\/strong>. In June 2026<\/strong>, the case against the battalion commander was referred to court on charges of negligence in military service.<\/p>\n

The history of November 1<\/strong> in Korabelnyi District<\/strong> and Mykolaiv<\/strong> is the story of a city of shipbuilders, people who fought for their rights, defenders who gave their lives for Ukraine, and residents who endured the destruction of war. Alongside the tragedies, there are achievements Mykolaiv residents can be proud of.<\/p>\n
