In Mykolaiv<\/strong>, the wife of fallen defender Ihor Shkorubskyi<\/strong> received a summons by mail addressed to her husband, who had died three years earlier<\/strong>. The document summoned him to the Korabelnyi<\/strong> District Territorial Recruitment and Social Support Center to update his military registration details. When the widow went to the office in person to find out how this could have happened, she was told that the relevant department had no information about her husband\u2019s death<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

“While people with no connection to the military or combat receive awards \u2018for the defense\u2019 \u2014 and something or other every time \u2014 my husband received a \u2018summons\u2019 posthumously yesterday.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

On October 30, <\/strong>2026, Mykolaiv resident Maryna Shkorubska<\/strong> wrote<\/a> about the incident on her Facebook page. She said she was initially stunned simply to receive a letter addressed to her husband, and when she opened the mail, she saw a summons to the Korabelnyi District Territorial Recruitment and Social Support Center.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The letter came from the Mykolaiv Executive Committee. At first, she was shaken by the very fact that correspondence had arrived addressed to Ihor Ivanovych<\/strong>, who had died three years earlier. Then she opened it at the post office \u2014 and found it difficult to describe the full range of emotions she felt.<\/p>\n

According to Maryna Shkorubska<\/strong>, she went to the Territorial Recruitment and Social Support Center almost immediately after receiving the letter. She said she had come because of the notice and was allowed to see the duty officer. There, staff began explaining that the document required her husband to appear in person and bring the necessary documents. However, the widow wrote, she could not listen to such explanations for long.<\/p>\n

She reminded the staff that her husband had died, and that the Korabelnyi military recruitment office had previously been involved in arrangements related to his burial, collected documents about the circumstances of his death, and presented his family with a posthumous award<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

“How can you send a notice to someone who died three years ago? Your recruitment office handled his burial. Your recruitment office collected documents about the circumstances of his death. Your recruitment office presented his family with a posthumous award!”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The woman said the staff\u2019s response outraged her: they explained that these matters had been handled by the social support department and that they supposedly had no relevant information. Maryna<\/strong> pointed out that these are departments within the same institution, which, she said, are located near each other but do not properly share information. She also recalled that in 2022<\/strong>, her husband had received a military ID at the same Territorial Recruitment and Social Support Center after losing his old document many years earlier. At the time, his military unit was recorded in it.<\/p>\n

The incident was especially painful for the family because, as the widow stressed, Ihor Shkorubskyi<\/strong> volunteered to defend Ukraine in the first days of the full-scale invasion, without waiting for any summons. The woman described receiving such a document as an insult to the memory of the fallen soldier. She believes the problem is not just this particular mistake, but also the lack of a proper information-sharing system between departments.<\/p>\n

“For me, this was AN INSULT TO THE HONOR OF THE FALLEN MAN, WHO VOLUNTEERED TO DEFEND THE COUNTRY IN THE FIRST DAYS, WITHOUT WAITING FOR ANY NOTICES.<\/p>\n

No \u2018we\u2019re sorry, we\u2019ll fix it\u2019 can undo this. Because until a system that works is put in place, notices will continue to be sent to the fallen, the missing, and those in captivity. And their families will receive them.<\/p>\n

My friend\u2019s husband, an ATO veteran, also received notices while he was in captivity.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

In her post, Maryna Shkorubska<\/strong> stressed that such cases may seem like paperwork errors to staff at these institutions, but they cause further pain to the families of those killed or missing.<\/p>\n

“To you, these are numbers and clerical errors. To us, they are PAIN AND HUMILIATION!”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

What is known about Ihor Shkorubskyi<\/strong><\/p>\n

Korabelov.info previously reported that Ihor Shkorubskyi<\/strong> was a volunteer from the Korabelnyi District<\/strong>. He was seriously wounded while carrying out a combat mission to defend Ukraine and died in 2023<\/strong>. The outlet reported his death on October 2, 2023<\/strong>. It also published information about the farewell ceremony for the defender, which took place on October 4<\/strong> in the Korabelnyi District. The article also quoted his wife, who wrote that he had volunteered to defend Ukraine in the first days of the full-scale war.<\/p>\n

So far, Maryna Shkorubska\u2019s<\/strong> post does not say whether the institution provided an official explanation for sending a summons to a fallen serviceman or whether the military registration information was corrected. The Korabelnyi District Territorial Recruitment and Social Support Center has also not published a response to the incident.<\/p>\n
